watering

Coral bells need to be watered deeply and regularly. For best results, water them once a week, providing 1-2 inches of water at a time. Make sure to water the soil at the base of the plant, not the leaves, and avoid over-watering as it can lead to root rot. Watering should be done in the morning between 6 am and 10 am, as this gives the soil time to absorb the moisture before the sun gets too hot and the water evaporates.

sunlight

Coral bells require 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day in order to bloom and thrive. This is best provided by the sun in the early morning and late afternoon, with the peak hours of sunlight falling between 10am and 2pm. Morning sun is more beneficial, as it allows the leaves to dry quickly and prevents diseases from developing. When growing Coral bells, avoid areas with deep shade as well as areas that receive only afternoon sun, as this will cause the foliage to become scorched.

pruning

Coral bells (Heuchera 'Spellbound') should be pruned in late winter or early spring. Depending on the level of pruning desired, plants can be trimmed back by 1-third to 1-half of their overall height. During this time, dead or damaged stems should be removed, as well as any foliage that looks wilted or discolored. In addition, removing any spent flower stalks will help to encourage healthy new growth in the spring. For a more dramatic pruning of this particular species, it is best to wait until late spring or summer and prune all stems back by 1-half of their original height. After pruning, mild fertilizing can help promote new growth.
