Holly (Ilex 'Mesog' CHINA GIRL) should be watered about once a week, at a rate of 1-2 inches of water per week. After planting, wait until the soil has dried before replenishing the soil with moisture. During the summer months, the soil should be kept moist, but do not overwater as it can lead to root rot. During the winter, the water requirement is lower as holly is a fairly drought-tolerant species. If you are looking for a good indicator of when to water, the general rule is if the top inch of soil feels dry, then it's probably time to water.

Holly (Ilex 'Mesog' China Girl) plants prefer full sun but will tolerate partial shade. When grown in full sun, plants will grow stronger and develop more colorful foliage. Generally, pruning should be kept to a minimum, as overwintering buds will be cut away. This species of holly does not require drastic pruning, and only requires removal of dead and diseased branches, and occasional selective thinning to maintain size or promote air and light circulation. Prune no more than 1/3 of the height and 1/4 of the volume of the plant.
