watering

Club moss (Lycopodium squarrosum) should be watered about once a week, or whenever the soil feels dry to the touch. During the winter, watering should be reduced to about once every 2 weeks. Allowing the soil to become slightly dry between waterings will ensure that this hardy species stays healthy. It is best to water in the morning using room temperature water, as too much wetness near bedtime can cause the leaves to rot. During the summer months, your club moss may require a little more water, especially if it is in a spot that is particularly hot.

sunlight

Club Moss prefers bright, indirect sunlight. During the summer months, it should receive 4 to 6 hours of sunlight a day, and during the winter months, it should receive 2 to 3 hours of sunlight a day. It is important to ensure that the plant does not receive too much direct sunlight; if the sunlight is too strong, it may cause leaf scorch. During the hottest months, it is recommend to move the plant to a location with more shade, but still have access to some direct light.

pruning

Club moss (Lycopodium squarrosum) does not require frequent pruning as it grows quite slowly. Prune the club moss annually in early spring before the new growth appears. Use sharp, clean pruners to prune off dead or damaged branches, as well as any stems that are growing in an uncontrolled or unappealing manner. Make sure to leave the terminal buds on the stems so the plant can regenerate and remain healthy. Be sure to keep the highest point of the plant even and symmetrical. You may also wish to prune the club moss to a desired size or shape if desired.
