watering
Patrinia (Patrinia gibbosa) grows best in well-drained soil and in containers prefers a soil with a high content of organic material. The best way to water Patrinia is to soak the root zone thoroughly, allowing the top few inches of soil to dry between waterings. It should be watered about twice per week during the warmer months, when the weather is very hot and dry it can be watered more often. During the cooler months you should water no more than once every 2 weeks. Make sure that the roots never sit in water for extended periods of time as this can cause the roots to rot.
sunlight
Patrinia (Patrinia gibbosa) plants require direct, full-sunlight for at least 6-8 hours per day. When planted in full-sun, Patrinia plants will thrive with strong growth and abundant flowers. When planted in partial shade, they may still store nutrients and flower, but will not be as vigorous as when planted in full-sun. Patrinia plants can be tolerant of direct, strong sunlight for most of the day during the growing season, but can sometimes suffer leaf scorch or burn in overly hot or dry microclimates. For best results, Patrinia plants should be grown in an area with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight, preferably early morning or late afternoon sun.
pruning
Patrinia gibbosa can be pruned once it has finished flowering. It is best to prune lightly if at all, as more aggressive pruning can damage the plant's root system and leaves. Trim off old flower stems; this will encourage a more bushy growth. Pruning in late summer is recommended. This gives the plant time to establish new growth before winter dormancy. Prune by cutting off stems just above a dormant bud, using a pair of sharp scissors. Pruning Patrinia gibbosa can help keep the plant looking tidy and encourage abundant new growth, but should be done lightly and as needed to maintain shape.
