watering

Lungwort needs to be watered regularly, but not too often. For best results, water your Pulmonaria 'Excalibur' in the morning, 2 to 3 times per week. Aim for a deep soaking each time, rather than giving it a light sprinkle. To ensure your soil is moist but not waterlogged, let the water drain away freely after each watering. During hot, dry weather, water more frequently. When the temperatures cool and rainfall increases, reduce your watering to once per week.

sunlight

Lungwort (Pulmonaria 'Excalibur') should be planted in an area that receives at least 4 to 6 hours of sunlight each day for optimal plant growth and bloom. It can also grow in partial shade, however, flowering can be reduced and the colors of the foliage will be less vivid. When possible, place the plant in a location that receives a few hours of morning sun or filtered sun in the late afternoon. Lungwort can withstand some summer sun but protection from the afternoon sun in hot climates is beneficial.

pruning

Lungwort (Pulmonaria 'Excalibur') should be pruned lightly once a year in spring. This should be done after flowering has finished, when new buds appear on the stem tips. You should remove any dead, damaged, or diseased foliage and flowers, and then selectively thin out some of the older, woodier growth so that it is not overly dense. This will encourage the new growth that will be full of colourful flowers and lush, healthy foliage. You should trim the plant back no more than 1-third of its total size, as this will keep it in check for the next flowering season. These simple steps will ensure that your Lungwort looks and performs its best!
