Bethlehem sage

Bethlehem sage (Pulmonaria saccharata 'Mrs. Moon') should be watered when the soil feels dry to the touch. Usually this means watering every other week during the growing season in spring and fall. During the summer months, water more frequently if the soil is drying out faster. Additionally, the plants prefer more frequent, light waterings rather than occasional deep waterings.

Bethlehem sage (Pulmonaria saccharata 'Mrs. Moon') grows best in partial shade. It prefers 3 to 4 hours of bright, indirect sunlight per day. Prolonged exposure to hot, direct sunlight will cause this plant to become stressed and lead to leaf discoloration. For this reason, it is best to place the Bethlehem sage in an area that will receive some morning light and afternoon shade.

Bethlehem sage should be pruned in early spring, before new growth appears. Pruning should consist of removing any dead or damaged stems and removing 1-third of the oldest stems to the ground. This will encourage new growth and a more bushier plant. Lightly trim back the remaining stems to create a more compact form. Pruning after flowering is possible but will limit the number of blooms for the next season.
