watering

Lungwort should be watered thoroughly but not too frequently. Water about once a week during the active growing season and slightly less frequently in the cooler months. Water slowly until moisture is seen at the bottom of the pot, and then wait until the soil is nearly dry before watering again. Remember to monitor the soil moisture as too much or too little can cause the plant to suffer.

sunlight

Lungwort (Pulmonaria 'Smoky Blue') thrives best in partial to full shade, receiving at least 4 hours of sunlight each day. In an ideal setting, the plant should receive no more than 3–5 hours of direct sun each day, preferably in the early morning or late afternoon when the light is less intense. In warmer climates, filtered sun or dappled shade is best. Plants that receive too much direct sun may burn or suffer from leaf scorch.

pruning

Lungwort should be pruned only when necessary. Generally, this should be done in early spring, before the plant begins to bloom. When pruning, remove any old, dead, or diseased foliage or stems, and any parts of the plant that may be too dense or congested. In addition, prune any stems that have lost their flower clusters, to promote new, compact growth. Pruning Lungwort down to the base of the plant will help encourage more dense, lush foliage and further promote flowering.
