Bethlehem sage

Bethlehem sage should be watered deeply 1-2 times a week when the top 1-2 inches of soil has dried out. Avoid overwatering, as the roots could rot in soggy soil. During cold weather, water the plant very sparingly (only when the soil has completely dried out). Water should be applied slowly and evenly to the root zone of the plant to ensure the best absorption.

Bethlehem sage (Pulmonaria 'Spilled Milk') should be grown in an area with full sun to light shade. It will do best in soil that is moist but well-draining and does not tolerate very heavy clay soils. During the growing season, this plant should receive at least 4 or 5 hours of direct sunlight per day and should be watered regularly to keep the soil moist. During hot and dry days, the plant may need extra water. In the winter, the plant will not need as much sunlight and can do well with only 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight a day.

Pruning of Bethlehem sage (Pulmonaria 'Spilled Milk') should be done annually in early spring before the plant begins to actively grow. Cut out any dead or damaged stems and lightly trim back to encourage a more compact and bushier shape. Cut back flowering shoots to the next set of blooms and remove spent flowers to help extend the blooming period. Doing only slight pruning helps keep the plant vigorous and healthy.
