watering

Speedwells like evenly moist soil and should be watered thoroughly and regularly, making sure to water until it comes out of the drainage holes. Aim for about 2-3 inches (5-7cm) of water per week, either from rainfall or watering. During the summer, this will likely need to be supplemented with additional watering, as this plant enjoys consistent soil moisture. During the winter, cut back watering a bit to compensate for the natural lack of sunlight and lower temperatures. Avoid overwatering as this can lead to root rot.

sunlight

Speedwell (Veronica 'Darwin's Blue') prefers full or partial sunlight. A minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight per day is ideal. During the summer months, this plant should be placed in a spot that has at least 7 to 8 hours of direct sunlight. When grown indoors, a south- or west-facing window is recommended. When outdoors, it is best to provide the full complement of sunlight for this plant. It is also suggested that the sun should be filtered through a gauzy curtain to diffuse the sometimes harsh rays. This plant should be exposed to both morning and afternoon sun to encourage flowering.

pruning

Speedwell (Veronica 'Darwin's Blue') should be pruned annually in late winter or early spring. Prune back the stems that have grown and bloomed during the fiscal year to a height of 4-6 inches. Deadheading, or removing the spent blooms, during the growing season also encourages bushier and fuller growth. Trimming may be done to clean up the shape of the plant or to remove spent blooms, but regular pruning is not necessary.
