watering

Silver speedwell needs to be watered moderately when the soil starts to feel dry to the touch. Aim to water approximately once per week, providing 1-2" of water, depending on the temperature and the climate in which the plant is growing. In hotter and sunnier weather, you may need to water more frequently, up to 2 times per week. During winter months, when the plant is dormant, it should not be watered as much, only when the soil is completely dry. It is important to ensure that the soil drains properly in order for the Silver speedwell to remain healthy.

sunlight

Silver speedwell (Veronica spicata subsp. incana 'Pure Silver') plants require full sun for optimal growth and flowering. Plant them in an area that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day and they will reward you with an abundance of bright blooms throughout the growing season. The flowers will be even more prolific if the soil can drain sufficiently, so add organic material or sand to improve its texture if necessary. In warmer climates, it’s wise to give the plants some afternoon shade in order to keep them from drying out.

pruning

Silver speedwell should be pruned in early spring after the last frost. Pruning should be limited to removing any dead or diseased foliage as well as any weak or overcrowded stems to encourage increased air circulation and improved plant health. This species of Veronica is a low-growing perennial, so a light trimming back of spent flowers will help encourage additional flower production. Typically, the total amount of pruning should be no more than 1-third of the plant's total height to keep the plant looking full.
