Hybrid barrenwort plants should be watered regularly and thoroughly during their active growing period in late spring and summer. Hybrid barrenwort (Epimedium hybrid cvs.) can be lightly pruned after flowering to maintain its shape and to encourage repeat blooming. Pruning should be done in early spring, right before the new growth begins and should remove dead and diseased branches. Avoid pruning off any leaves or buds. Pruning too heavily will reduce blooming. If the stem of the plant has become too tall, it can be cut back to just above the soil level. This will promote branching and result in a fuller and bushier plant.
