Sea Thrift

The Sea Thrift (Armeria maritima subsp. maritima) will need ample watering to keep it healthy. It will need to be watered on a regular basis, approximately once every 5-7 days. It is important to make sure that the soil is consistently moist and not soggy, as the plant can get root-rot if the soil is kept too wet. If the soil feels dry to the touch, then it is time to water. If the plant is exposed to extreme temperatures, it will need to be watered more frequently. Be sure to avoid overwatering as it can cause the plant to become waterlogged.

Sea Thrift thrives with full sun exposure. It should get at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day for best results. During the peak summer months, Sea Thrift can tolerate up to 8-10 hours of direct sun per day, but it will benefit from partial shade in the hottest parts of the season. It should always have protection from strong, midday sun in areas with hot climates.

Sea Thrift is a low-growing perennial that thrives in sunny locations with well-drained soil. Pruning of Sea Thrift is relatively minimal, and should be done in the early spring before new growth begins. This will encourage a dense, mounded growth habit and keep the plant looking compact and tidy. To prune, simply use pruning shears to cut away any old and/or dead flower stems. The plants should not be sheared back so drastically that there is no foliage remaining. Afterwards, lightly fertilize and water the Sea Thrift to encourage regrowth.
