Trelease's larkspur

Trelease's larkspur (Delphinium treleasei) prefers moisture rich soil, making it an excellent candidate for places with plenty of rain or regular watering. It thrives in summer, with regular and consistent watering throughout its growing season. Water the plant deeply once every week, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. During prolonged periods of drought or heat, water more frequently, but avoid excessive watering that can lead to root rot. To ensure deep, thorough watering, use a drip irrigation system or soaker hose.

Trelease's larkspur is a sun loving plant species that grows best when provided with full sun. In order to thrive, it requires at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight each day. During the peak of the summer, 8-10 hours of sunlight may be needed for optimal growth. It is important to avoid high midday temperatures, as far as possible, since Trelease's larkspur is prone to heat and drought stress. The amount of sunlight should also be slightly reduced as the plant grows larger, to prevent wilting or other stress related issues.

Pruning for Trelease's larkspur (Delphinium treleasei) should take place in late winter or early spring, as new growth begins to appear. Prune back the stems of the plant by 1-third to 1-half of their length. This will encourage new growth and maintain a healthy, attractive shape of the plant. Keep in mind that when pruning, make sure that enough of the plant’s leaves are left on the stem so that the plant can still photosynthesize. Once pruned, the plant can be fertilized and watered to encourage new growth.
