coral bells

Heuchera brizoides 'June Bride'

Coral bells (Heuchera brizoides 'June Bride') is a shade-loving, evergreen perennial bearing delicate white flowers during late spring and early summer. It grows to a height of 12-18 inches, with a mounded shape. Its deeply-cut, lobed purple leaves are large and held in attractive whorls. The foliage stands out against the white, bell-shaped flowers, which make a beautiful feature in shaded gardens. Low maintenance and tolerant of a range of conditions, coral bells are a beautiful addition to flower beds and rock gardens.

watering

Coral bells require moderate amounts of water. Water when the top 1-2 inches of the soil are dry. In the spring and summer when the weather is warm, water the plant once or twice per week, adding water until it comes through the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot. In the fall and winter when the weather is cool, only water the plant every 2 weeks. Consider using a moisture meter to check soil moisture levels and adjust your watering as needed.

sunlight

Coral bells thrive best when given a good amount of direct sunlight for at least 5 to 6 hours a day. Ideal sunlight exposure for this plant species is morning sun and afternoon shade, however, they can tolerate slightly more sun during the summer season. In warm climates, a location with partial shade is recommended to keep the plant from becoming sunburned or wilted. Generally, coral bells will have better growth if given shade during the more intense, mid-day sun. Afternoon sun should be avoided as it can cause leaf scorch.

pruning

Coral bells (Heuchera brizoides 'June Bride') should be pruned in late winter or early spring. Pruning should be done lightly to maintain both the size and shape of the plant. If needed, you can remove up to 1-third of the foliage, but be sure to leave at least 2-thirds of the foliage on the plant. Severe pruning should be avoided as it can lead to lack of flowering. Pruning should also be done before any new growth appears.
