watering

Coral bells require regular watering, particularly during the growing season from spring to fall. During this time, water the plant when the top inch or 2 of soil is dry. When watering, water thoroughly until water starts to come from the bottom of the pot. Consider adding a layer of mulch around the base of the plant to help lock in moisture. In the winter months, when the plant is dormant, you may need to water your plant less frequently. Only water when the top inch or 2 of soil is quite dry.

sunlight

Coral bells need plenty of sunlight during the spring and summer months, and grow best in areas that receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. They do not require you to place them in direct sunlight for extended periods of time, as the heat can be damaging to their delicate foliage. As the weather starts to cool down in the fall, coral bells should be placed in areas that receive at least 4 hours of direct sunlight daily. In the winter, they can tolerate less sunlight, and may not need any direct light at all.

pruning

Coral bells (Heuchera 'Cultus Bay Beauty') typically should be pruned annually, preferably in the early spring before new growth emerges. Pruning can help promote new growth, maintain a bushy, healthy shape, and enhance flowering. Trim back the foliage to about half its original height, shaping the shrub as desired. Deadheading old flowers will also help promote additional blooming. Be sure to avoid overpruning of coral bells as it can stunt the growth of the plant.
