watering

Spring starflower should be watered moderately and consistently throughout its growing season. The plant prefers slightly moist but well-draining soil. Water about an inch of water per week during spring and summer, and cut back to just a few times a month during autumn and winter when the plant is dormant. In periods of drought, it may need to be watered even more frequently. If possible, it’s best to give the spring starflower a deep soak once a week rather than several smaller waterings, as this encourages deep root development.

sunlight

Spring starflower (Ipheion uniflorum 'Charlotte Bishop') needs full sun for at least 6 hours per day in order to thrive. During spring and summer, it will enjoy the most light; however, in the winter months, it can be kept in a bright spot and still be okay.

pruning

This plant species does not require deadheading or much pruning in general except for removal of any broken or dead stems and removal of any excess growth. To tidy up the clump, 1 can cut the older stems that have become woody near the base, down to the more recently produced growth. Additionally, any stems that spread beyond the desired size of the plant can also be pruned in late winter or early spring. In general, prune no more than 1/3 of the clump in a single pruning session.
