watering
Eulalia (Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus') requires moderate amounts of water during the growing season, spring through fall. During these months, water the plants deeply and evenly when the soil dries out to approximately 2" (5cm) deep, which should be about every 7-10 days. Avoid frequent light watering, as this can lead to root rot and other water-related diseases. Reduce watering frequency in winter, when the plant is dormant. Allow the soil to nearly dry to a depth of at least 1" (2.5 cm) before watering. Keep in mind that plants in containers or in the sun will require more frequent waterings than those in the shade or the ground. If grown in an area that receives a lot of rain, supplemental water may not be needed.
sunlight
Eulalia (Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus') requires a minimum of 5 to 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. This plant thrives in warm to hot summers, with direct sunlight more likely to provide optimal growth. During the cooler months, Eulalia will require less direct sunlight. A location that gets 4 or 5 hours of direct sunlight will provide more than adequate amounts of light and will offer some protection against the cold winter temperatures. It's important to pay attention to the amount of sunlight Eulalia receives throughout the year in order to ensure optimal growth. In general, protect it from direct wind gusts as too much direct sunlight can cause the leaves of the plant to burn, resulting in discoloration and early leaf fall.
pruning
Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus' should be pruned in late winter or early spring before new growth appears. For pruning, remove all dead and dried shoots as close to the ground as possible. Additionally, you may also want to reduce the height of the plant by approximately 1-third to give it a pleasing shape. Do not cut any stems that are still green, as this could damage the health of the Eulalia.
