watering
Watering Norway spruce (Picea abies 'Kellerman's Blue Cameo') is important to keep the tree healthy. To keep the soil moist, water the tree once per week except during periods of excessive rain; then refrain from watering. Use an irrigation system or water by hand with a hose or watering can. Pay special attention to areas around the root zone. For an even spread of water, move the hose or watering can around the base of the tree in a circle. Water deeply enough that the soil stays moist for a few days. In dry weather, water the soil completely and deeply until it is saturated. During hot summer months, water twice a week or more.
sunlight
Norway spruce requires full sunlight for optimal growth. It should receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day, either in the morning or evening. During the peak summer months, it is beneficial to provide the plant with 8-12 hours of direct sunlight per day. During winter months, 4 hours of sunlight is still necessary, but due to decreased sunlight intensity, it should be supplemented with artificial light.
pruning
Pruning Norway spruce (Picea abies 'Kellerman's Blue Cameo') should be done twice a year. Pruning in the early spring should be done before the growth season starts, ideally in late March or early April. During this time, you can selectively remove any weak or damaged branches, as well as any branches that do not create a natural shape for the plant. Pruning in the late summer or early fall (August to September) should be more extensive. Aim to prune 4-8 inches away from the main trunk. Cut branches evenly by following the general framework of the plant, and be sure to cut all branches at a 45 degree angle. This will allow the plant to grow faster and create a consistent shape.
