watering
Self heal (Prunella grandiflora) will grow best when given consistent moisture. Water this plant deeply once each week during the growing season, spring through summer, or more often depending on weather. To determine how much to water, stick your finger in the topsoil and if it feels dry below the first knuckle, add water until the top 2 inches are moistened. In the winter, reduce watering to once every 3 weeks or when the soil is dry to the touch. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot, which can be a problem for self heal.
sunlight
Self heal (Prunella grandiflora) prefers full sun to partial shade, with up to 6 hours of sunlight a day being optimal. It can also tolerate some shade, though, especially in warmer climates where it's prone to becoming scorched in direct mid-day sunlight. Optimal soil conditions for this plant are moist and well-draining, preferably with a slightly acidic pH level. It will, however, tolerate most soil types in the garden.
pruning
Self Heal (Prunella grandiflora) should be lightly pruned in early spring and, if needed, again in late summer or early autumn. In early spring, trim off any wilting or dead foliage from the previous season as well as any spent flower stems to encourage fresh new growth. In late summer or early autumn, trim back any straggly and unbalanced growth and lightly shape the plant to tidy it up and help to maintain an attractive form. Be sure to avoid over-pruning as it can weaken the plant and reduce flowering.
