watering
Wall germander should be watered thoroughly once a week with warm water. Allow the soil to dry out slightly in between waterings. With good drainage, water no more than every 5-7 days in the summer when the plant is actively growing. However, during very hot and dry weather, water more often as needed. In winter, reduce watering to every 10-14 days as the plant becomes less active.
sunlight
Wall germander (Teucrium chamaedrys) needs full sun to partial shade to thrive. It prefers at least 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight per day, with some light shade from the hot afternoon sun. This plant can also tolerate full afternoon sun in cooler climates. In warmer climates, it is best to avoid too much intense sunlight and opt for partial shade. In either climate, the wall germander should be placed in a location that gets adequate airflow so that leaves dry quickly after watering.
pruning
Wall germander should be pruned in early summer, after flowering has finished, to help promote full, bushy growth. Start by removing any dead or diseased branches. Next, gently thin out any overcrowded stems, cutting back to strong, healthy buds located just above a side shoot. A light trim of the entire plant can also be beneficial, reducing it by 1 third to 1 half of its height. Make sure to use sharp, clean pruning shears and always search for crosses or crossing branches and remove them immediately. Avoid pruning in late autumn or winter; instead, wait until spring or early summer for vigorous regrowth.
