Tuberous Bulrush (Bolboschoenus glaucus) is a perennial wetland grass native to North America, Europe, and Asia. It grows an average of 5 to 6 feet tall, forming dense clumps along lake beds, ponds, and marsh edges. It has narrow, hair-like leaves and cylindrical cones that contain seeds. Its flowers are small and yellow-white in colour. As a host wetland plant, it hosts various organisms, like birds, frogs, and insects, and supports dense aquatic vegetation and fish populations. Its cylindrical, tuberous root system easily filters out toxins from the water and helps to contain sediment deposits. It’s an attractive grass with drought tolerance that makes it an easy addition to landscaping projects.

If some of the stems have become sprawling, the stem can be gently tied back to the neighboring stems. If pruning late in the season, try to avoid removing any flower stems.
