watering

Stonecrop should be watered regularly, but not too often. Water the soil around the plant once the top inch of soil has completely dried out. Allow the planting medium to dry out for about 5 to 7 days between watering. Don’t allow the soil to become bone dry as this can damage the plant. During periods of extreme drought, more frequent watering may be necessary. Avoid wetting the foliage when watering. It’s best to water the soil directly and not the plant’s leaves or stem.

sunlight

Stonecrop (Sedum acre 'Oktoberfest') plants thrive best in full sun, which means 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight per day. For optimal growth, they should receive the more intense heat of afternoon sun. Winter sunlight is usually weaker in intensity, so the plant may require more than 8 hours of direct sunlight in wintertime. In extremely hot climates, partial sun or light shade exposure is preferred.

pruning

Stonecrop (Sedum acre 'Oktoberfest') should be pruned in late fall or early winter. Pruning should involve removing spent flowers and dead or diseased foliage. Pruning should be done lightly and only enough to maintain the desired shape of the plant. Do not remove more than 1-third of the plant material or it can leave the plant vulnerable to stressing plant health. Cut the stems back to a height of approximately 3-5 inches above ground level. This will stimulate new growth and flowering in the next season.
