watering

Hosta 'Sagae' plants need to be watered regularly throughout the growing season, usually at least once a week. In general, water thoroughly when soil has completely dried, giving the soil enough water so that it is slightly moist. Check plants daily during hot, dry periods to make sure they are not drying out. Do not overwater as this can lead to root rot. In times of high rainfall, drainage is essential. You may need to water less often during cooler temperatures, such as in spring or fall.

sunlight

Hosta 'Sagae' is a plant species that does best in bright indirect sunlight and should receive at least 4 hours of sunlight per day for optimum growth and health. It is best to give this species its sunlight in the morning, allowing shady afternoon conditions. Too much sun can cause leaf damage, so if the sun is strong or intense, partial shade should be provided. This plant should not be placed in direct sun for more than 1 hour per day, as leaf scorch and other damage can occur.

pruning

Hosta 'Sagae' should be pruned once in late winter or early spring before new growth appears. The amount of pruning is best kept to a minimum and should consist mainly of removing dead, damaged or tatty looking leaves. Use sharp, clean secateurs and where necessary remove any flowers that have yet to open. Occasionally, prune wayward stems and seedheads. It is advisable to always disinfect the secateurs with some alcohol or rubbing compound between uses.
