During actively growing times, water more often, or if the weather is very hot or dry, you can water every few days. It is important to always check the soil and monitor moisture levels. Water the ground around the base of the plant with a garden hose or soaker hose, not directly on top of the plant. Avoid over-watering, which can lead to root rot.

Panicle hydrangeas need plenty of sunlight to thrive. They prefer 6-8 hours of full sun each day throughout the growing season, which is typically from late spring to early fall. During the winter months, they should receive 4-6 hours of indirect light. Panicle hydrangeas should be protected from direct afternoon sun, as this can cause the leaves to scorch or fade.

Prune panicle hydrangea in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Begin pruning by removing any dead, diseased, or damaged branches. When the plant is young, prune to shape and direct its growth. Once it matures, remove overlapping branches and open up the plant's interior to allow light and air to reach the center of the plant. Reduce the longest stems by 1-third to 1-half of their length for bushier growth. This will encourage the plant to produce more flowers which will turn to showy white fruits later on.
