watering
Undaunted Muhly grass (Muhlenbergia reverchonii) should be watered once or twice a week under normal conditions, depending on your climate and the rainfall in your area. In hot, dry conditions, you may have to water more frequently. If the soil around the plant feels dry to the touch, water deeply. Make sure the plant is getting enough water by soaking the soil evenly around the base of the plant. For the first few weeks after planting, water more frequently, making sure the soil is moist but not soggy. Keep in mind that too much water can drown the plant. In the cooler months when the plant is dormant, reduce the amount of water significantly.
sunlight
Muhly grass (Muhlenbergia reverchonii UNDAUNTED) requires full sunlight for 6-8 hours daily. During the hottest summer months, this grass variety will benefit from some protection from the late afternoon sun and while taller surrounding plants may provide enough shade to adequately help, you can also provide a cover of some sort if needed. While your Muhly grass needs a lot of sunlight, be sure to avoid too much sun. Too much exposure can dry out your plant and stop new growth.
pruning
Muhly grass should be pruned twice a year for best results. Prune the grass in mid-spring and late-summer. Prune in mid-spring to remove dead foliage and to encourage vigorous new growth. Cut the stems to 1-third their original height. Pruning in late-summer helps create a neat, low mound and also helps to contain the spreading habit of the plant. Cut the stems back to 2–4 inches from the ground. Spring pruning stimulates growth, while late-summer pruning maintains a neat shape, so these 2 prunings can create a truly beautiful specimen for any garden.
