watering

This plant requires regular watering, but the soil must not be kept soggy. In the spring and summer it needs to be watered approximately 1-2 times a week to keep the soil moist. In the fall, watering should be reduced slightly to about 1-2 times a month. In winter, creepy buttercup rarely requires water unless the temperature is particularly warm, and in that case the plant should be watered sparingly. If you are not sure if the soil is dry, stick your finger in the soil up to your first knuckle and feel for moisture. If the soil is dry, it is time to water.

sunlight

Creeping buttercup (Ranunculus repens 'Buttered Popcorn') prefers bright, indirect sunlight or light shade. Around 4-5 hours of direct sun per day is ideal for optimum growth. It will tolerate more sunlight in cooler climates, but in warmer climates, it should be placed in part shade. Direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day should be avoided in order to reduce the risk of leaf scorch. During the spring and summer months, when the plant is actively growing, more sunlight may be beneficial to encourage flowering.

pruning

Creeping buttercup (Ranunculus repens 'Buttered Popcorn') should generally be pruned early in the spring, right before the new growth begins in April. This type of plant can be quite aggressive, so pruning should be done vigorously to control size and shape. Aim to cut back the stems by about a third. On older plants, encourage a strong, erect growth form by removing any flower stems. Remove any dead or damaged stems and cut back any stems that are becoming too straggly. After the initial pruning, you can monitor the plant through the summer months and lightly trim again if necessary.
