watering
Weigela florida 'Tango' should be watered twice a week to keep the soil consistently moist but should be allowed to dry slightly between waterings. During the spring and summer when the plant is actively growing, water when the top 1 inch of soil feels dry. During the fall and winter when the plant is dormant, you should still water it once a week. Be sure not to overwater as this can cause root rot and stunted growth. Make sure the soil has good drainage so the roots are not sitting in water.
sunlight
Weigela (Weigela florida 'Tango') plants are relatively sun-loving plants and should receive at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day for optimal health and growth. If grown in an area with intense afternoon sun, however, care should be taken to avoid sun scorch or to provide some shade in the afternoon to avoid excessive heat. Additionally, it is important to note that Weigela plants need to be in a location that receives morning sun and afternoon shade.
pruning
Weigela (Weigela florida 'Tango') should be pruned lightly in late winter or early spring every 2-3 years. This is a gap pruning which removes only a few of the oldest, largest stems each year, in order to control size and maintain the natural shape of the shrub. Also removing any dead, diseased, or a crowded branches helps with air circulation and prevents disease. New growth on stems and blooms will respond so pruning just to the main branches is the recommended practice. A light pruning will encourage an abundance of flowers in late spring. Do not prune more than a 3rd of the shrub in any 1 year as this could weaken and damage the plant.
