Mongolian gold clematis

Mongolian Gold Clematis (Clematis fruticosa 'Mongolian Gold') should be watered every 7-10 days, or when the top 3-4 inches of soil feel dry. The amount of water needed will vary depending on the climate, temperature, humidity, rain/snow, and other weather factors. During hot summer months, it is best to give the plant a longer and deeper soaking; allowing the water to filter all the way through the soil. In cooler months, water less often and in lesser amounts. Water the base of the plant using a soaker hose or an oscillating sprinkler for better absorption. Make sure to keep soil moist but not soggy.

Mongolian Gold Clematis (Clematis fruticosa ‘Mongolian Gold’) grows best in full sunlight but can tolerate partial shade. This clematis prefers a minimum of 6-8 hours of sunlight per day. Morning sunlight is especially beneficial, as it helps to dry off any dew on the foliage that may lead to diseases. Allow the foliage to receive indirect sunlight for the remainder of the day. While this plant species may tolerate lower light conditions, its overall health and vigor is at its best when grown in full sun.

Mongolian Gold clematis should be pruned in late winter or early spring each year, just before new growth begins. Pruning should involve removing any dead, diseased, or damaged wood, trimming back side shoots to a few pairs of buds, and removing any stems that have crossed or clung together. This will encourage new growth and allow light and air to reach the center of the plant. It is important to not prune too drastically as this can weaken the plant as it takes a while to establish its structure.
