When placing your deutzia in a sunny area make sure to not place it in full afternoon sun as this can damage your plants. Place the deutzia in an area that receives morning sun and afternoon shade. Too much direct sunlight can affect the growth of the deutzia.

Deutzia hybrida 'Magicien' can benefit from pruning in early spring before the new growth emerges. The best time to prune Deutzia is at the end of winter or early spring when any frost danger has passed. Depending on the size and vigor of the Deutzia, it can be lightly pruned by removing a few of the oldest stems down to ground level to open up the center of the plant. Flowering can be improved with judicious pruning by cutting back the long shoots to a pair of buds after flowering. This will help to encourage a densely flowering shrub. Harder pruning can be done to rejuvenate an older shrub that has grown too large or wild by cutting old stems right to the ground and allowing new growth to emerge.
