Heuchera 'Tara'

Heuchera 'Tara' is a variety of coral bells, also known as alum root. This hybrid perennial has stunning foliage with ruffled, scalloped edges in a deep maroon hue. Its delicate bell-shaped cream flowers bloom from midsummer to mid fall and are great for attracting hummingbirds. Heuchera 'Tara's size and attractive clumping habit make it perfect for the front of the garden border or rock gardens. In addition, coral bells are easy to maintain, drought tolerant, and evergreen, making it a great plant for most climates.

watering

Coral bells require moderate water and should be watered when needed. Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil have dried out. During the summer months, this may mean watering once a week. During cooler months, you may only need to water once every 2 weeks. During the winter, water only if the soil begins to dry out. Try to avoid overwatering as it can cause root rot. Avoid getting the foliage wet when watering. If possible, take the pot off the saucer when watering and let the plant sit until it’s fully drained.

sunlight

Coral bells (Heuchera 'Tara') prefer full sun for optimal growth and flowering. For best results, the flowers should receive 6-8 hours of direct sunlight each day. In areas with extreme heat, it is best to plant the plant in a location protected from additional afternoon sunlight. When located in full sun, the flowers will open earlier and hold their color for longer. If planted in partial shade, the flowers will not be as numerous, and the foliage may become more yellow-green in color.

pruning

Coral bells (Heuchera 'Tara') should be pruned in the late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Pruning should be done selectively, with the goal of maintaining the natural shape of the plant. Remove any dead or broken stems and any damaged or crowded branches. To rejuvenate, cut all of the stems down to within 6 inches of the ground. This will promote an overall healthier look for the coral bells, as well as encouraging fuller growth and blooms.
