watering

Spanish bluebells need frequent but careful watering. Water the plants weekly, or when the soil is dry to the touch, allowing the top inch of the soil to dry out between waterings. During their spring bloom period, provide water more often—1-2 times a week. In the summer, decrease watering to every 2 to 3 weeks, depending on the weather and amount of rain. Make sure the soil stays evenly moist, but be careful not to over-water.

sunlight

Spanish bluebells prefer full or partial sun, though they tolerate some shade. They prefer to receive 4 to 8 hours of sunlight a day, preferably during the morning. During the summer, Spanish bluebells are happiest when they are in a partially shady spot or otherwise protected from direct sunlight in the afternoon or during the hottest time of day.

pruning

For Spanish Bluebells, it's best to begin pruning in early spring, after the plant has gone dormant and finished flowering. Begin by removing any dead or overly spent flowers and foliage. Once the foliage has begun to grow in the spring, continue by trimming the foliage back by 1/3 its length. This will encourage bushier and fuller growth for a more uniform shape. Remove any stalks that are diseased or dead as you go, and be sure not to trim away any immature flower buds. Continue to prune and shape the plant as you go throughout its growing season, usually 3-4 months. You can also trim away any areas that are overcrowded to help promote better air circulation.
