Panicle Hydrangeas should be watered regularly especially during their establishment period. During the growing season (May through August) water plants deeply about once a week, or more often in hot, dry conditions. The soil should be moistened to the depth of 12- 18 inches. During the autumn and winter months, water need is much lower; if no rainfall is received, water the hydrangeas at least once a month. Allow the root and soil to completely dry out between waterings.

Panicle hydrangeas need around 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight per day, which is usually provided in its native, cold-temperate regions. The best time of day to ensure the plant gets adequate sunlight is from after 10 a.m. to before 4 p.m.. Any sunlight before or after that period should be filtered through a window or shade plant to reduce the intensity and protect the plants from sunscald. Partial shade is also beneficial for this species as they can tolerate some light shade as well.

For panicle hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata 'Kolmakilima' MOONROCK), pruning should be done in the early spring season (March-April). Pruning should be done moderately to retain its shape and reduce the size a little, to keep the shrubs neat and tidy. To prune, you should cut back the previous year’s flowerheads once the chances of frost have passed. Do not cut back too much as it may delay the flowering. Additionally, you can deadhead the spent blooms in autumn and trim lightly to encourage new flower development.
