Ligustrum 'Vicaryi'

Golden privet (Ligustrum 'Vicaryi') is a fast-growing, evergreen shrub that reaches an average height of 5 to 6 feet. Its oval shaped leaves are a bright golden-yellow color that stands out in any landscape. It produces small creamy white flowers in the summer that are highly fragrant and attractive to bees and butterflies. This species is highly adaptable to different soil types, and will tolerate some shade; however, it prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Its thick foliage makes it an excellent choice for a privacy hedge, and is also suitable for topiary and other ornamental purposes.

watering

Golden privet (Ligustrum 'Vicaryi') should be watered every 7-10 days, depending on the plant's location and the weather. If you notice the soil is dry and the leaves of the plant are starting to brown, then water more frequently. Place your finger in the soil before watering to ensure the soil is indeed dry before you water. Avoid overwatering as this could damage the root system and cause the leaves to brown. Give each plant about 1-2 liters of water and ensure the soil is well-drained so excess water can escape easily.

sunlight

Golden privet (Ligustrum 'Vicaryi') is an evergreen shrub that does best in full sun or partial shade. The plant should be exposed to at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day, ideally during the morning and early afternoon when sunlight is at its lowest intensity. If possible, keep the plant out of direct sunlight from mid-afternoon to late evening. To prevent overheating, take care not to expose golden privet to sunlight for more than 8 hours daily.

pruning

Golden privet is a deciduous shrub that should be pruned in early spring, after the final frost but before growth begins. Pruning should be done lightly, removing only the oldest, largest branches to promote healthy, vigorous new growth and shape. Start by removing up to 1-third of the oldest branches near the base of the plant. Removing a few of the lower branches will improve air flow and keep the center of the plant free from pests. When pruning, always use a sharp pruning tool to make clean cuts.
