watering

Orienpet lilies require frequent watering during their active growth in the summer months. During this period, the soil should be kept slightly moist and watering should occur about 3 times per week. It’s best to water the lilies early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid burning the stamens and petals with hot water. Allow the soil to dry out between watering to maintain drainage and avoid sitting water which can cause root rot. In the fall months as the plants begin to go dormant, the watering can be reduced, but the soil should never be allowed to completely dry out. Water when the top inch or 2 of soil begin to feel dry. During the winter months, check in on the plants in the dormant season occasionally and water when the soil is dry. Be sure to never over water or water late at night, as this can damage and weaken the plants.

sunlight

The Orienpet lily (Lilium 'American Dream') prefers full sun for at least 6 hours per day. This lily tolerates partial shade, but will not reach its full size and flower magnificently unless it receives full sun. Sun exposure is especially important during the flowering season. During the summer months, the lily must receive direct sun from early morning until mid-afternoon. In cooler months, they can tolerate more sun, receiving up to 8 hours per day. It is best to position your lily in a spot that gets full sun for most of the day and is sheltered from strong wind.

pruning

Orienpet lilies (Lilium 'American Dream') should be pruned after the flower blooms as the flower stems will die off. Pruning should involve removing the dead or damaged stems, as well as trimming leggy growth. To promote healthy new growth, Orienpet lilies can also be lightly pruned late in the summer, removing up to a third of the stems. This should also promote new flower stems for next season.
