sea lavender

Limonium platyphyllum

Sea Lavender (Limonium platyphyllum) is a species of plant found in coastal regions of Europe, North Africa, and western Asia. It is a short-lived perennial that features loosely tufted, gray-green foliage and delicate clusters of small, lavender-blue flowers. Sea lavender prefers full sun and sandy, well-draining soils, and is suitable for use in coastal gardens or as a cut flower arrangements. It blooms from spring through autumn and requires moderate water and fertilizer to thrive. The flowers are especially attractive to bees and butterflies and provide habitat and food for these beneficial pollinators.

watering

Sea lavender should be watered once or twice a week. The amount of water will depend on the climate; in drier climates you may need to water more often. Apply water until the soil is evenly moist but not saturated. Remember to allow for drainage and do not leave standing water in the pot or tray. During warmer seasons, the soil may dry out faster and need more frequent watering.

sunlight

Sea lavender (Limonium platyphyllum) does best in a sunny spot with 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day. It can also tolerate partial shade, particularly in hot climates where the direct sunlight is too intense. Ideally, Sea lavender should get morning sun and then some shade in the afternoon.

pruning

Sea lavender should be pruned once a year, in late spring or early summer, just after flowering. Pruning should be light, taking only approximately a third of the plant's branches. This will keep the plant healthy, and help encourage new growth. Depending on your particular climate, you may need to prune again in the fall to keep the plant looking neat and tidy. Always use sharp shears or a pruning saw when pruning, and make sure all cuts are clean and smooth.
