watering
Rosa 'Rose de Rescht' should be watered deeply and thoroughly once a week during the growing season from spring to fall. To water, allow the water to run slowly at the base of the plant for 15 minutes. Avoid overwatering to prevent rot and fungal diseases caused by excess moisture. In the winter, do not water this plant species at all. Portland roses do not need additional water during dormancy.
sunlight
Portland rose (Rosa 'Rose de Rescht') can thrive in either full sun or partial shade. If the plant is exposed to full sun, it should be placed in an area that receives a minimum of 6 hours of sunlight each day for optimum growth. If placed in partial shade, it should receive about 3 to 4 hours of direct sunlight each day in order to promote healthy growth. In all cases, it needs to be protected from very cold temperatures.
pruning
Portland Rose should be pruned twice a year to keep it in good shape. In early spring, prune off dead canes and reduce the overall height of the shrub by about 1-third. In late summer after flower production is finished, reduce the remaining canes to about 3-fourths of their length. This will further decrease the size of the bush, but will also encourage new growth and more flowers in the following year. Additionally, remove any suckers at the base that are not part of the rose's main shape.
