watering
Stonecrop (Sedum aizoon) is a drought-tolerant succulent plant that does not require a lot of watering. During the growing season, from April to September, Stonecrop should be watered about once a week. Aim to keep the soil moist but not soggy. In the winter months, from October to March, reduce the watering to once every 2 weeks. As the plant will not be actively growing during this period, it’s best to let the soil dry completely before each watering. Too much water in the winter can lead to root rot. If you live in a particularly dry climate, you may wish to give an occasional watering during the winter months as well.
sunlight
Stonecrop (Sedum aizoon) requires direct sunlight for around 6 to 8 hours per day in order to thrive. For optimal growth, this plant species should receive at least 4 hours of direct sun and 4 hours of indirect light each day. It should be placed in an area where it gets a full or partial sun, preferably away from heavy wind. In summer months, stonecrop needs full sun to prevent wilting, whereas during the cooler seasons it should receive more partial shade. Additionally, this species does best in soils that are well-draining and with a slightly acidic pH level. Without proper sunlight, stonecrop will not grow and may become susceptible to diseases.
pruning
Stonecrop should be pruned shortly after flowering to prevent seeds from maturing. Pruning should be done very lightly to avoid damaging the plant. For a plant species like Sedum aizoon, pruning should not exceed more than 1-third of the plant’s stems and leaves, as this could severely inhibit its growth. Pruning should be done in early summer to promote better flowering. Depending on how vigorous the growth is, plants may need to be lightly pruned a few times during the summer and early fall before frost.
