Meadow Rue (Thalictrum rochebruneanum) should be watered weekly, but only when the soil has dried out. Care should be taken not to waterlog the soil as this may cause root rot. Water thoroughly, but allow the soil to dry out between waterings. In the winter when the temperatures dip below freezing, the plant will need significantly less water. It can be watered only a few times throughout the winter season.

Meadow rue (Thalictrum rochebruneanum) prefers direct sunlight for a few hours a day during the growing season for maximum growth and flowers. It can thrive with bright, indirect sunlight throughout the growing season and can even tolerate some shade during the hottest parts of the day. When the plant is in bloom, it can benefit from an hour or 2 of direct morning sunlight on the flowers. It should be protected from afternoon sun as it can be too hot for young shoots and leaves. Avoid shading it completely, as it needs at least a few hours of direct sunlight each day during the growing season for best growth and flowering.

Meadow Rue (Thalictrum rochebruneanum) should be pruned twice a year, once in early summer and again in late summer. For the early summer pruning, remove any dead or diseased stems and any overly dense stems that may be shading other parts of the plant. You may also wish to pinch off a few of the topmost flower buds to encourage bushier growth. During the late summer pruning, trim back any stems that may have grown too long or drastically unfavorably. Additionally, woods that are blooming may be trimmed back again after flowering to tidy up the plant and encourage more blooms.
