watering

This plant species prefers moist, well-drained soil and should be watered regularly. During the peak growing season (spring and summer) water this plant species once a week. Make sure at least an inch of water is given each time. In the winter, the frequency of watering should be reduced to every other week. When the temperatures rise and the plant is actively growing, increase watering frequency. The soil should always feel moist but never soggy or wet. If the top 2-3” of soil is dry, it is time to water.

sunlight

Lance-Leaved Arnica (Arnica lanceolata subsp. lanceolata) requires full sun or partial shade. Generally, this plant prefers sunny locations in the morning and partial shade in the afternoon. Sunlight is especially beneficial during the early developing stages, as the plant needs at least 6 hours of direct sun per day in order to thrive. The plant also benefits from some protection from the hot summer sun. Too much shade can lead to poor flowering and a lack of vibrant colors in the foliage, so be sure to provide the right balance of intense sunlight and dappled shade.

pruning

Lance-Leaved Arnica (Arnica lanceolata subsp. lanceolata) should be pruned in late summer or early autumn. Pruning should be done after the flowers have faded and before the first frost of the season. Remove any dead or dying stems to keep the plant healthy and to encourage new growth. Prune the stems back by 1/3 of their length. Prune the outer stems more heavily than the inner ones to help promote a fuller look and keep the plant's center open. This pruning should be done with a sharp pruner, and all pruned remains should be discarded away from the plant.
