shasta daisy

Leucanthemum superbum 'Summer Snowball'

The Shasta Daisy (Leucanthemum Superbum 'Summer Snowball') is a bright and cheerful addition to any garden. Tall stems support its dazzling white petals and bright yellow centres. It blooms prolifically from late spring right through to autumn, its flowers just as pure and stunning as the first bright day of summer. Its neat and tidy habit make it an ideal choice for ground cover or mass plantings. In cooler climates, it adds a much-needed hint of summer to an otherwise dormant garden.

watering

Shasta daisy should be watered when the top inch or 2 of soil is slightly dry. The frequency of watering depends on the season and environment. During the warmer months, it is best to water 1 to 2 times per week, as more frequent waterings are needed in order to keep the soil moist. During the cooler months, you can water once every 2 weeks or so. Water slowly and for long enough that the water penetrates the root zone.

sunlight

Shasta daisies prefer full sun, so they should receive at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight each day. For best performing plants, try to place them in a spot that gets sunlight throughout the day, but offers some protection from the hot afternoon sun. Avoid afternoon sunlight for young or newly transplanted plants to prevent wilting. Too little sunlight may cause the flower blooms to be fewer and smaller than they would be otherwise.

pruning

Shasta daisy (Leucanthemum superbum 'Summer Snowball') should be pruned once a year, preferably in the early spring before any new growth begins. Remove any dead or damaged stems and cut the other stems back to just above the desired bud or leaf node. The cuts should be made at a 45 degree angle. Pruning will encourage more compact, fuller growth and also promote more flowering throughout the summer months.
