watering

The Orienpet Lily (Lilium 'American Heritage') should be watered frequently, but only when the top of the soil is dry to the touch. This species of lily is drought tolerant, so too much water can damage the roots and reduce the number of blooms. During the spring and summer, water about twice a week. During the fall and winter, water once every 2-3 weeks. If the plant is in a pot, it might need water more frequently. For best results, moisture should be applied to the ground around the plant rather than directly to the leaves.

sunlight

Orienpet lilies (Lilium 'American Heritage') require plenty of sunshine for optimal growth and blooming. The plant should be placed in a location that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight each day, and preferably more. During the summer months, sunlight should be filtered and reduced in the afternoon hours as the intense sun can be damaging to the lily. In the winter months, when the days are shorter, the plant should receive at least an hour of direct sunlight a day to promote healthy growth.

pruning

Oriental lilies (Lilium ‘American Heritage’) should be pruned once a year after blooming. The lily should be pruned back to 6-8 inches above the ground and all dead flower stems should be removed. In addition, the heavy, top-heavy flower stems should be trimmed and the center of the plant should be thinned out. All of the leaves should be mildly pruned to open up the center of the plant. The goal of pruning is to encourage new growth that will promote healthier and stronger plants.
