Tiarella 'Sunset Ridge'

Tiarella 'Sunset Ridge' is an evergreen foam flower with yellow-green leaves featuring stunning red edges which deepen in color with time. Slender stalks bear clusters of pale pink flowers in the springtime and sometimes again during the summer. A reliable groundcover for shady areas, this lovely plant reaches a height of 8 inches and spreads about 20 inches wide. Prefers moist, well drained soils and is an excellent choice for areas with moist, acidic soil. Foliage provides season-long interest and deer resistance. Easy to care for and maintain, making it perfect for a low-maintenance garden.

watering

Foam flower plants should be watered regularly but lightly. They need about 1 inch of water per week, and should be watered deeply rather than intermittently. Watering should be done in the morning so that the plant has time to dry out before evening. If you live in a hot climate, you may need to water the plant more frequently, at least twice a week. Otherwise, it is best to stick with once a week. If the soil starts to feel dry, or the leaves start to droop, give your foam flower an extra drink. It's important not to overwater the foam flower, which can cause fungal diseases to develop.

sunlight

Foam flower, also known as Tiarella 'Sunset Ridge', is a shade-loving perennial plant that thrives in well-shaded areas with bright morning sun. Depending on location and season, it can tolerate up to 4 hours of direct sunlight per day. While more sun can help the plant bloom better, too much sun can cause the foliage to burn and cause serious injury to the plant. Ideally, the foam flower should receive early morning sun and should be shaded in the afternoons.

pruning

Foam flower (Tiarella 'Sunset Ridge') should be pruned lightly each year in late winter (late February to early March), before the new leaves appear. This pruning should be done primarily to remove any dead or damaged stems. If the plant is leggy or overgrown, the stems can be cut back lightly by about a third or half of their length so that the clump appears more compact and to encourage the growth of bushier foliage.
