watering
Quebec Sedge is an extremely hardy wetland grass that does well in full sunlight or partial shade with moist soils. The plant should be watered regularly but not to the point of constant moisture. In the warmer months, water the Quebec Sedge about once a week, allowing the top few inches of soil to dry out between waterings. During offseason and winter months, water less frequently and only when the top 1 inch of soil feels dry. Be sure not to let the soil become overly dry, or the plants will suffer accordingly.
sunlight
Quebec Sedge is a sun-loving plant species that does best with a minimum of 4 hours of direct sunlight each day. It can also tolerate some amount of partial shade, but with less sunlight the plant will generally be less vigorous. Like most plants, it will thrive with more sunlight. The ideal amount of sunshine for Quebec Sedge would be 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight, including the middle of the day. The plant should receive consistent sunlight throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Winter sunlight is not as important as long as the plant isn’t buried or left in the shade for extended periods of time.
pruning
The Quebec Sedge is a perennial evergreen grass-like plant that should be pruned arriving into the spring and summer growing season. To encourage healthy and full growth, it should be pruned once or twice in the spring, lightly snipping the tips of the plant. Doing this will encourage a bushier spreading habit. It may also be necessary to prune again in mid-summer to keep the plant from getting too tall and dangerous to mow around. Pruning around July will help maintain its shape and will produce bushier habit. Pruning should not be done too aggressively, however, as this can damage the plant and end up harming it. When pruning, it is important to watch out for the small brown flowers that will appear in the summer so that you don't prune them. Pruning can be done with pruning shears and should be done only as much as needed.
