Water your Chinese Juniper (Juniperus chinensis 'Perfecta') deeply and thoroughly twice weekly during the summer months (April - September). During the winter months (October - March), water your plant moderately once a week. Make sure to water your Chinese Juniper slowly and evenly, allowing the soil to absorb the water.During periods of extreme drought, increase waterings to every 4 days. It is important to not allow the soil to become too dry between waterings. When it comes to fertilization, fertilize your Chinese Juniper once a month in the spring and summer months with a granular fertilizer mixed into the top 2 inches of soil. Avoid fertilization during the winter months.

Chinese juniper (Juniperus chinensis 'Perfecta') prefers full sunlight and will thrive when given 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight per day. The best time to give this juniper species direct sunlight is during the morning, as this is when the sun’s rays are the strongest. To keep the leaves at their healthiest, ensure that the other hours of the day are shaded. Though the juniper does prefer full sunlight, it can also do well in partial shade, especially during the summer months when the sun is at its hottest.

Chinese juniper (Juniperus chinensis 'Perfecta') should be pruned annually in late winter or very early spring. Pruning should be done to remove dead, damaged, overcrowded and crossing branches. The plant should be trimmed lightly, allowing for some air circulation and light penetration for healthy growth. Remove less than 1-third of the live growth, leaving enough foliage to provide a healthy balance for the plant. When shaping your Chinese juniper, always prune with sharp and clean pruners. Pruning, as well as fertilizing and watering appropriately, will result in healthy growth, strong structure and a balanced shape.
