savin juniper

Juniperus sabina 'Mini Arcade'

Savin juniper is a coniferous shrub from the family Cupressaceae. It grows in the shape of a low mound, reaching around 1 meter in height and width, with individually small scale-like leaves and an attractive blue-green color. The 'Mini Arcade' cultivar has a fine branching structure with numerous, dense sprays of foliage. The bark is reddish-brown, and it produces small cones that are about 5 mm in size and contain tiny seeds. In ideal conditions, it can grow up to 2.5 meters, making it a great candidate for bordering paths or small gardens. It prefers full sun and is drought tolerant, making it a great choice for xeriscaping and other low water applications.

watering

Savin Juniper (Juniperus sabina 'Mini Arcade') should be watered every 7-10 days during the growing season (spring to late summer). Make sure the soil is completely dry before you water it again. Water the plant deeply so that excess moisture can drain away from the roots. Make sure the soil has completely drained before placing the container back on its saucer. During the winter months, you can reduce watering to once a month, only if the soil is dry. Make sure they are in a bright, sunny location and keep in mind that although this species is drought tolerant, it still needs to be watered regularly.

sunlight

Savin juniper (Juniperus sabina 'Mini Arcade') is a coniferous evergreen shrub and requires full sun to partial shade and grows best in well-drained soil. It should have at least 4 hours of direct sunlight per day, ideally 8-10 hours with some morning sun and afternoon shade. This species, however, can tolerate less hours of sunlight when established. Additionally, since it is a canopy plant, high winds should be avoided as they can cause permanent stress to the plant.

pruning

Savin juniper (Juniperus sabina 'Mini Arcade') should be pruned lightly once a year in early spring before new growth begins. Pruning should mainly consist of removing any dead or diseased branches. It is also recommended to shape the plant lightly if desired. If the juniper is extremely overgrown, it can be lightly pruned back in stages over a 2–3 year period. When pruning, make sure not to remove more than 1-third of the plant in any given year.
